1. An instrument that reads the humidity in the air directly; some are based on a hair's ability to shrink or expand with humidity, or on certain electronic chips. Generally, a psychrometer is more accurate at higher humidities (above 95%) [23]. 2. Apparatus for the direct measurement of the relative humidity in the atmosphere [16]. See also psychrometer.
