hydraulic gradient
1. The change in static head per unit of distance in a given direction. If not specified, the direction generally is understood to be that of the maximum rate of decrease in head [22]. 2. Slope of the water table or potentiometric surface [22]. 3. A chance in the static pressure of ground water expressed in terms of the height of water above a datum, per unit of distance in a given direction [22].
