The UIS Commission on Karst Hydrogeology and Speleogenesis is organizing this symposium within the ICS-15 program: "Speleogenesis in Regional Geological Evolution and its Role in Karst Hydrogeology and Geomorphology".

This symposium will provide a forum for discussing major advances made recently in the study of speleogenesis, its relation to regional geologic evolution, and its role in karst hydrogeology and geomorphology. Papers on all relevant aspects are welcome. We invite submissions that discuss models of speleogenesis (conceptual, digital, or physical) in a variety of continental settings: deep-seated through exposed, hypogenic through epigenic, basinal through tectonically disturbed. Case studies that link regional speleogenesis with regional geologic evolution and changing settings are especially welcome.

Speleogenesis has been one of the most dynamically evolving fields of karst and cave science over the past few decades. Studies in this subject have had a growing impact on many branches of geosciences. The Commission feels that a worldwide forum of cavers and cave scientists such as ICS-15 is a good opportunity to highlight the central role of speleogenesis in karst hydrogeology and geomorphology, as well as its important role in the formation of economic deposits.

Time to act! Submission of abstracts for ICS-15 is due in less than six weeks ? by December 1, 2008. For complete details, including guidelines on how to prepare your paper, visit http://www.ics2009.us/papers.html.

We sincerely hope that you will support the rising profile of speleogenetic studies by presenting the results of your most important work.

Speleogenesis Symposium co-chairs:

Prof. Arthur Palmer (USA)

Dr. Alexander Klimchouk (Ukraine)
