NEW MEMBERS

We are pleased to announce that we have received applications from three karst hydrogeologists. It is always good to see new people interested in joining our commission. This allows for the flow of new ideas, adapting the KC to an ever-changing world. Two members come from Europe and one from North America. It is especially rewarding to see that we will have another woman joining us. This will help the KC to move towards more equitable gender diversity.

As usual, we will make a brief presentation of each one and will provide a more detailed CV so you can get to know about their careers and research interests.

LEE ANNE BLEDSOE

Lee Anne has over 10 years of experience in karst hydrogeology. She is a Research Hydrogeologist and Assistant Director of the Crawford Hydrology Laboratory at Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, Kentucky, USA. She is a specialist in groundwater tracing for basin mapping, water resource management, environmental remediation, and other environmental and industrial applications. JEAN-BAPTISTE CHARLIER

Jean-Baptiste is a Research Scientist at BGRM (French Geological Survey) based in Montpellier, France. He has more than 16 years of experience in karst aquifers, dealing with hydrodynamics and modellling, surface-water/groundwater interactions, and transport of contaminants in groundwater. For a more detailed CV of Jean-Baptiste Charlier please go to this page

LAURENCE GILL

Laurence is a professor of environmental engineering in the School of Engineering, Trinity College, Dublin, Republic of Ireland. His research interests involve studying the fate and transport of both air and water-borne pollutants in the natural and built environment, the characterization of karst hydrological catchments, the development of passive treatment processes and the ecohydrology of wetlands. KC MEMBERS ARE CANDIDATES IN THE IAH COUNCIL ELECTIONS

Voting for the International Association of Hydrogeologists Council election is now open. The new Council members will be responsible for running the IAH for the 2020- 2024 term. We are pleased to announce that there are three Karst Commission members running for positions in the Council:

Joanna Doummar (Lebanon) is running for Regional Vice President for Middle East and North Africa.

Marco Petitta (Italy) is running for Regional Vice President for Europe (West and Central).

Seifu Kebede (Ethiopia) is running for Regional Vice President for Sub-Saharan Africa.

All IAH members should have received an e-mail with further information on all candidates and procedures to vote. Voting is open until September 18.

NEW SPELEOGENESIS WEBSITE

A new version of the Speleogenesis website has been launched (click here to see). This very nice and comprehensive website represents the International Union of Speleology (UIS) Commission on Karst Hydrogeology and Speleogenesis, but it is also a website of our Karst Commission. The KC members have now the speleogenesis website as a platform to promote and foster our activities.

Many thanks to KC friend Alexander Klimchouk and Alexey Kopchinsky.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS SHORT COURSE VIRTUAL KARSYS ONLINE

KARST 2020 CONSERVATION OF FRAGILE KARST RESOURCES

As announced previously, this event will go virtual and will take place between August 18-20. The schedule of the sessions and virtual field trips are available on the website.

Further information can be found here

EUROKARST 2021

Arguably, the most traditional karst hydrogeology meeting, the Eurokarst 2021, the European Conference on Karst Hydrogeology and Carbonate Reservoirs, will take place in Malaga, Spain, on June 22-24. This conference will be the 2021 official meeting of the Karst Commission.

INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF SPELEOLOGY

This congress is held every 4 years and in 2021 will take place in Savoie Mont Blanc, France, between July 25 - August 01. Many activities are planned, including a symposium on Karst Hydrogeology, organized by Anne Johannet, Bernard Collignon, Arnaud Malard, and Alexandre Zappelli. The deadline for submission of abstracts is August 31.
