UIS Commission on Karst Hydrogeology and Speleogenesis

On 25th February, the National Cave and Karst Research Institute (NCKRI) moved from its temporary offices to it newly built headquarters.

Our thanks go to the City of Carlsbad, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (New Mexico Tech), and the U.S. National Park Service for helping us change our headquarters from a dream to a reality. Effective immediately, NCKRI’s new address is:

National Cave and Karst Research Institute
400-1 Cascades Avenue
Carlsbad, New Mexico 88220-6215 USA

This move only affects NCKRI’s offices and personnel in Carlsbad. NCKRI is administered and greatly supported by New Mexico Tech in Socorro, New Mexico; personnel and programs at that location are not affected.

If you need to reach us, please accept our apologies in advance if we are slow to respond. It will take us a several days to unpack and organize our offices. Also, our telephone and Internet lines are currently being installed (I’m sending this through a separate connection). When we retrieve our backlog of messages it may take a little time to answer them all.

While our new offices are now open for business, we are planning our Opening Day Celebration for Saturday, 14 May 2011 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. We are planning this to not just celebrate our headquarters, but as a community celebration for many of our partners in Carlsbad who have worked for years to create a scenic new shopping and business area near the beautiful Pecos River — the Cascades at Carlsbad. NCKRI Headquarters is the first building in this development. If you are an NSS member, look for an article on our Opening in the April 2011 issue of the NSS News. You can also check out NCKRI’s Facebook page on our current progress and for details later on our Opening Day Celebration. Also in April, look for a major revision of NCKRI’s website: www.nckri.org.

Lastly, if you have not heard through other channels, NCKRI was recently granted the honor of membership in the American Geological Institute (AGI). Attached is AGI’s the press release.

NCKRI is moving forward in many ways. We tremendously appreciate your support and hope you can join us on May 14th. If not, please drop in to visit us the next time you’re in Carlsbad. Feel free to share this message with anyone think may be interested.
